Meet the team
Welcome to the Trans Comedy Team. We have been working together for about a year now bringing all of our skills to this exciting project. Read on to find out a little bit more about us.
Claire is very much at the centre of the project and leads, or some would say bullies all the others into submission. Always with a smile of course and always with a passion for Trans issues. She is also a Trans stand up comedian and brings 5 years of experience from the clubs into this project to help marry comedy and Trans representation into a great initiative.
She is also is a bit of a magpie and has been collecting media representation for many years now and thinks that this award is an amazing way of taking back ownership of the Trans identity from the media. She firmly believes that you have to be part of the solution if we are to change perceptions. @ItsClaireParker
As a working comic of ten years Shelley jumped at the chance to attend Trans Camp, through Trans Media Action and On Road Media at Channel 4 earlier this year. Like Claire and Milanka she has been involved with the project since its inception
When Shelley did the first of five one woman shows at the Edinburgh Festival in 2003 being an openly Transgendered comic was a solitary experience.
Shelley is fully behind the project which seeks to encourage a more balanced and respectful portrayal of Trans issues in the media
British actress Milanka Brooks studied at the Drama Centre. She was then cast in the BBC sitcom My Family, which has since led on to other work in TV, more recently Joanna Lumley’s Little Cracker for Tiger Aspect Productions.
Milanka was thrilled to be invited to Trans Camp, through Trans Media Action and On Road Media at Channel 4 earlier this year, and she has loved working alongside and brainstorming with such an inspiring and dedicated team. She will now take on the role of script-reader in judging the entries for the Trans Comedy Award.
